Junction 9

Beautiful features adorn every corner of the Junction 9 space in Calgary: candle lighting, copper fixtures, clean lines and naturally soothing aromas to dispel the stress from the world outside. You will notice captivatingly calm details when you catch a midday meditation or start the day in a powerful warrior pose at this gorgeous yoga and pilates studio at 9th Street and 9th Avenue SE.

We restored this early 1900s building to overlook the river, with a view of downtown from the rooftop deck. We extended the existing wood structure and south-end staircase and added a penthouse to provide roof access to the aluminum and glass railing deck. This studio stands out from the other buildings with its exterior parametric wood-screen façade created from 100-year-old bar wood. The cutoffs were repurposed into coffee tables and lounge stations with original wood-slat ceilings and salvaged structural pillars. You will also notice the interior ceiling is not flat, and we decided to work with this unique, gently rounded feature rather than fixing it.

The studio has a full-service coffee bar located on the main level that serves healthy food, tea, smoothies and kombucha.
