This finance company’s office space in Calgary at 3rd Avenue and 14th Street SW was inspired by an old English castle, so the designer opted for exposed concrete columns and colours such as black, dark grey and white—all with modern elements, like a chalk wall, custom millwork lobby desk, splashes of orange, modern furniture and compelling art. The kitchen has gourmet, high-end elements, like custom cabinets, but with the functionality of a commercial space that includes a large island with hand-installed stone waterfall counter and funky herringbone-patterned floor tile. In the office area, open cubicles, demountable partition walls, and a panorama of windows create a bright and inviting work environment.
